wayunki
Wayunki was born in the year 2018. It came from the landscapes of unconsciousness to brighten up and harmonize the space of consciousness with their sound. Wayunki carries a new quality of experiencing oneself through sound. Its dulcet tones bring moments of rest and calm to those who listen… a subtle touch of real home and mystery in eternity.
It is a unique instrument for meditation, relaxation, ceremonies, healing and playing for fun. It finds its use in live, improvized or composed music, where it complements other music instruments with its specific sound mood. There are many people who have been using Wayunki during ceremonial and therapeutic procedures and those, who have been enriching their music with it. The most famous interpret to use Wayunki is MAOK.
The story
It all begins with a toad. A magical toad named Bufo Alvarius and its secretion, which is the most powerful known psychedelic. During a Bufo ceremony I experienced in 2018, I had undescribable sound sensations. During the application, our guide and facilitator Yann used a tibetan singing bowl and an instrument called Wauwau tube. Each of the instruments was placed next to one of my ears and the adventure was fascinating. Since then, a vision was planted in me – a vision to create such an instrument. And after some time, it happened. Just from the original sound and instrument I met during the ceremony a new instrument was born – one that evoked the original one just remotely.

The process of production
There was still a long way for Wayunki from the beginning stage to its final form. During that process I gradually tuned all the desirable attributes of the instrument, for example its long reverberation, clarity and quality of tones, ideal number of tones, its size, material, practicallity, design, multifunctionality etc. When I was satisfied with the result, the phase of serial production began. I asked my friend Martin Studený to help me launch the project in its entierity. The instrument has its specifics, that must be taken into account during the seriál production, so it was a journey of challenges and dead ends. We came a long way during those 2,5 years before the project was ready.
Material
Wayunki is made out of aluminium. This metal has the best attributes, it is light and easy to manipulate. The sticks/mallets are made from wood and silicone. All the used materials are chosen in order to be as functional as possible.
Wayunki – the Ambient chimes
Due to the shape of Wayunki, the possibility of use as chimes was visible from the beginning. I also wanted to achieve an even softer sound than when playing with a classic sticks. For this purpose, I have developed an add-on that allows you to optionallyexpand the playing capabilities of the instrument. It is an extension that can be screwed into a hole in the mouthpiece and thereby obtain a modified instrument that sounds by swinging or other movement. A special silicone ball suspended in the cavity of the body of the instrument makes the tones sound in a very soft and continuous way. The resulting sound creates moody soundscapes, is very hypnotic, ideal for various ceremonies, meditation and music therapy.
Why “Wayunki”?
From the first prototype of Wayunki, I knew that the name of the instrument would sound like this… Or I could say that the instrument already knew what it was called… My job was just to put the letters and syllables together to make it fit exactly. The process took me about 10 minutes. The word Wayunki can also express the phonetic transcription of the sound wayuwayuwayu, where the “ki” can resemble the initial strike of a stick – ki 🙂
Healing and Energy Work with Wayunki
You can try another interesting effect while playing Wayunki in any place. Every sound that sounds through a space creates invisible structures and patterns from sound waves and thus affects the energy flow of the place. If the sound frequencies are harmonic, these patterns will be harmonic as well. For example, they can look like a beautiful radiant mandala. Each space also has its own characteristics and specifics, therefore the figures of the same Wayunki will be different in every space. You can tune in with your inner vision to a specific pattern that your Wayunki creates in space and play with it with intention and imagination. You can edit and fine-tune it and even move it within the space. As a result, the pattern can be stored in the place and it is possible that it will remain a permanent part of it and can thus tune the energy flow of the place. We will be glad for any feedback and news about using and working with Wayunki for similar purposes.
